The Utica University Political Poster Collection contains campaign posters for candidates across the political spectrum. Clearly highlighted in this collection is the tension between Upstate, Republican-leaning constituencies and the more predominantly Democratic areas closer to New York City. Among the collection highlights is a poster of New York’s first African American gubernatorial candidate from a major political party.
The collection contains a mixture of local, state, and national campaign posters from the 1970s to the present. Local and state campaign posters generally represent candidates from Central and Upstate New York. Local posters represent candidates from the greater Utica-Rome area.
