About

Alfred University is a friendly, vibrant living/learning community located in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains in Western New York. AU offers more than 60 academic programs and a host of clubs, organizations and recreational opportunities. The University began in 1836 as a co-educational select school founded by members of the Seventh Day Baptist denomination. The Select School grew and developed into the Alfred Academy in 1843. Fourteen years later, the University was officially formed. Many changes and much growth has occurred over the years and these images help share the deep history and heritage found at Alfred University. The University Archives, located in Herrick Memorial Library, is the repository for official and unofficial records that document Alfred University's history. The Archives serves as the collective memory of the University and, as such, it contains historical records of enduring value generated by faculty, academic departments, administrative offices, students, and campus organizations. The primary responsibilities of the Archives are to collect, organize, and preserve the collections; to provide access and support for reference and research; and to provide useful documentation of the policies, people, aims, achievements, and events of the University. All members of the University and community at large are encouraged to use the Archives.

Alfred University - Herrick Library is a member of the South Central Regional Library Council.
