Historical Context

The Clinton Liberal Institute opened in 1891. The Clinton Liberal Institute, or the C.L.I., was a coeducational preparatory school. Later it was changed to a military school. Students from all over the world came to the C.L.I. Simon Lake, one of the students, invented the first modern submarine. The C. L. I. Armory was used to store artillery equipment. It burned on March 25, 1900.

This collection contains images and artifacts relating to the coeducational, military preparatory school that existed in the village at the latter half of the nineteenth century.
